Lumex Pro works scanner-free, straight from your phone — but a dedicated document scanner like the fi-8150 speeds up high-volume scanning considerably. This guide covers driver, software, firmware, and the cleaning step our pilot rollout surfaced.
Applies equally to the fi-8170 (same driver/software base).
Ricoh's download portal requires the device serial number before it unlocks any downloads. You'll find it on a sticker on the back/underside of the scanner (field SER.NO.), or on the device's own touchscreen for models with a display.
Enter it in the SER.NO. field on the Ricoh download page — only then do the downloads for your specific device unlock.

Two core components from the download page (already bundled in the setup DVD's recommended install):

Also part of the recommended install:

Firmware updates improve recognition rate and stability. Not strictly required for first use, but worth checking before relying on the scanner for daily volume.

Observed in our pilot rollout: after first use, faint streaks/residue could show up on scanned card backs — caused by contamination on the feed rollers (manufacturing residue, dust from the shipping box).
Fix: clean the feed rollers with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free microfiber cloth.
Cleaning interval: not finalized yet — we'll update this once we have more pilot data. Until then: clean immediately whenever you see streaks on scanned card images, regardless of a fixed schedule.
